COLOSTRUM: WHAT THE HECK IS IT?!
Share
Have you ever heard the word “Colostrum?” Maybe it sounds familiar? Let’s get to the bottom of it.
What is it?
Colostrum is technically breastmilk that your body develops when you’re still pregnant. Around the third trimester, you might see a yellowish sticky liquid. That’s colostrum. It stops producing a few days or so after your baby is born.
What does it do?
Colostrum helps build your baby’s immune system! It provides concentrated nutrition that is specifically developed for a baby to consume while it’s a newborn. It’s super easy to digest.
What are the benefits?
It is SO important for protecting your baby, and their immune system. It’s super high in antibodies and white blood cells, and protects them from infections.
How long does it last?
It starts during mid-late pregnancy, and stops producing about 2-4 days after your baby is born. Since it starts producing during pregnancy, you’re gonna want to save it. This way your baby can get FULL advantage of the concentrated nutrition you’ve produced when they are first introduced to the world!
